The Old Chapel, Slad - Guestbook

We would like to welcome you to write a few words about your experiences and useful comments about your stay at The Old Chapel, Slad for our future guests.

Thank you.

The most beautiful house and setting with all the amenities anyone could ever need! Thanks so much for a great stay.

Amelia,

A lovely house in a very picturesque part of the Cotswolds. It is the second time I have been to Slad and it is definitely a place to which I will return.
Lovely and central to Stroud, a very good pub in walking distance and some lovely walks.
Really worth a visit if you love beautiful scenery and walks.

Suzanne,

A perfect holiday in the Cotswolds. Stunning surroundings, incredibly high spec home with all the amenities needed for two young families. We loved the trampoline, the fire pit, the wood-burning stove. Excellent number of bathrooms/showers, having a utility room and a really well stocked kitchen made it a home from home. The house is stunning and the wow factor when we arrived was amazing, even better than the pictures. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Katherine,

We have just got home from 3 nights at the old chapel and it was perfect. The chapel itself is so well presented with every amenity you can think of. An extremely well equipped kitchen. If you forget something it will most probably be there in a drawer somewhere. Massive table, log burner, huge fridge and a trampoline were the other highlights.

The beds were very comfy and the rooms were massive and with 3 1/2 bathrooms everyone can get ready at once.

The views are stunning from inside and out and it is very peaceful up on the hill looking over the valley.

Andrew,

The Old Chapel is absolutely gorgeous and equipped with everything you'll ever need during your stay, and then some! Magical place where you'll be able to relax and unwind. More active type? No problem - lots of things to see around Slad and lots of nice walks available at your doorstep too! The host is great too. We're looking forward to coming back at some point in the future...

Konrad,

The Old Chapel was beautiful and so unique! It was a wonderful stay and the little added extras like tea and coffee and flexibility around check in time made it all the better. Beds were comfortable and the house was warm. Slad as a village was charming and would definitely recommend booking well in advance for the eating establishments. Will definitely be back soon!

Melanie,

The Old Chapel is not only a beautiful building itself, the surrounding gardens are wonderful to spend the evening in, and the local area is great for wooded walks.

Jude was helpful before the stay and very attentive to needs while we were there. All in all a lovely experience.

Adam,

Everything you need to enjoy this stunning location. Fabulous house, clean and everything you need for a relaxing break. Highly recommend.

Emma,

The situation was stunning and the Chapel itself just beautiful. All your creature comforts were to hand with some extras thrown in. It was all very relaxed.
Thankyou for a wonderful family getaway. The highlights were toasting marshmallows on an open fire just outside with everyone from old to young sat around watching the sun go down and the morning view, simply stunning.

Ann,

Such a wonderful and much needed break. The chapel was home from home and perfectly equipped for the family. We enjoyed the 7km loop walk that Jude suggested, ending at the Woolpack for Sunday lunch. Will definitely be coming back again.

Adam and Jane,

So wonderful to be back at the Old Chapel where we were married 10 years ago. This is a truly magical place. Thank you so much for sharing its beauty. We will return for more anniversaries.

Brad and Mel,

Absolutely fabulous. Fantastic chapel, beautiful views, lots of lovely walks. The Woolpack Pub is great and a very relaxing retreat. We hope to return soon. PS Worth the slog up Painswick Beacon for the views. The dogs loved it.

Priest Family,

Lovely place, beautiful location & fantastic holiday! We hope to return!

D Campbell,

The old chapel is one of the most impressive places I have ever stayed. Location is fantastic and the views are breathtaking. My family and I loved everything about the chapel, it was really a home from home. Couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you Jude for making our stay in the Costwolds so magical and comfortable!

M Aliman,

We were excited about escaping to the Old Chapel after weeks of lockdown and we weren’t disappointed. This is a gorgeous quirky place to stay with fabulous views of the Slad valley, comfy beds, beautiful bed linen and an eclectic art collection. Our days were spent walking parts of the Cotswolds Way and we spent several evenings around the fire pit after dinners in the huge and well-appointed kitchen. The highly rated Woolpack Inn down the road was just starting to reopen and we plan to eat out there next time - we’re already planning our next visit!

A Rowland,

The Old Chapel was just the most perfect rental for our weekend away with family and friends. 6 adults, 2 kids and 3 dogs had a great few days in this beautiful property. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a unique place to stay in the glorious Cotswolds countryside.

Z Lyons,

The Old Chapel was a wonderful place to stay for a week to explore this part of England! There were eight of us (two families, 4 older children) and the bedroom layout was perfect. The boys shared and my niece had the option to escape to the smaller room! The kitchen had everything that we needed with a lovely huge table to sit around. The children made great use of the games room (tech) and we even managed to play one of the many board games. We stayed during the hottest week and downstairs was so cool but with an open fire and blankets it was well equipped for any weather. The decor was a great mix of old and new and we loved the art and Mexican touches. Don't miss dinner at The Woolpack or the market in Stroud on Saturday morning. Plenty of walks and NT properties near, lots of local info at The Old Chapel to help you decide what to do. In fact there were plenty of books about any topic! One of the nicest places we've stayed, would definitely recommend! Oh and the views were amazing (how could I have forgotten that!).

Sarah,

We stayed at the Old Chapel as a base for our daughter’s wedding at Elmore Court. It was super - big enough to host guests for the day after the wedding and cosy enough for just three of us in the lead up. The beds were very comfy and the kitchen very well equipped. The local Woolpack Inn is an added bonus, great food and congenial atmosphere. It is a very well maintained property with high quality fixtures and fittings. Thank you for sharing with us. We would love to return as the area looks stunning and we would like to walk and explore.

Karen Stanton,

Just spent a week at the old chapel in Slad and we were not disappointed.... absolutely stunning old building which has been restored perfectly. We spent hours just wandering around the rooms looking at all the quirky pieces of art which was very much to our taste! Fabulous array of games to play, books to read and plenty to entertain the children! Our 7 year old has cleared the bramble bushes in the garden and we have an oven full of crumbles and pies as we speak! Extremely well equipped kitchen and the chapel was lovely and clean when we arrived. Thank you also to Debra who was very helpful and informative prior to our stay! We thoroughly enjoyed this short stay in beautiful surroundings and highly recommend the wool pack inn just down the road!

Anneli J,

We *adored* everything about our stay in the Old Chapel. The nineteenth-century building has aura; the recent renovations make it wonderfully comfortable. We loved sitting on the front porch and looking out across the valley. The roomy, well-equipped kitchen had everything we needed. (And the art was a big surprise.) We highly recommend dinner at the nearby Woolpack. Nearby public footpaths, up and down the hill, are lovely. An extraordinary place to stay.

Stuart S,

My family (myself and my spouse, our two young boys, and my parents) stayed at the Old Chapel during the last week of May, 2018, while on holiday to celebrate my father’s birthday and my parents’ anniversary. It was a magical home-away-from-home, and we had a wonderful time. The Old Chapel is a place of stunning beauty, inside and out. We happened to stay during the height of springtime, so were there to witness the superabundance of flowers that envelope the property this time of year — wisteria, lilac, roses, honeysuckles; sitting in the gardens was a heady experience. Indoors, the converted space is impeccably styled with eclectic and whimsical taste, and is a perfectly comfortable place for family relaxation — every detail has been considered for the comfort of guests. The rooms are airy and bright, some lit by the church’s original rosette-windows; wonderful beds with with sumptuous bedding; the bathrooms are modern and have good water-pressure. The kitchen is outstanding — an enormous, beautifully designed space equipped with every tool you need to produce a restaurant-quality feast. Overall, the atmosphere is calm and cheerful, with new details of decoration and design to catch the eye at every glance (art-lovers are in for a special treat). All of this, and I haven’t yet mentioned the bucolic views of the sheep-dotted hills and hedgerows to be met in every direction, the immediate proximity to the various places of literary renown around the village of Slad (thanks to local author Laurie Lee’s memoirs), and the Woolpack pub less than 5 minutes down the road… it would be hard to create a more perfect place to stay while visiting the Cotswolds, or anywhere else.

Shawn Torbert,

What a beautifully updated converted chapel in Slad! This place screams Wow!
Inside and out this 'house' is beautiful. The views of the fields with sheep and the famous Woolpack Pub a short walk down the road is all you need. The chapel has a large kitchen with everything available you could possibly need or want. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms. The showers had great pressure and were carefully thought out when converted. There were times we just stayed there and sat outside to read and just look around. Having graves out front was kind of neat. This is a great location for visiting South Wales, the Jurassic Coast, Hampton Court, Oxford and places like Bourton on the Water. Really cannot say enough about the place. Would highly recommend it.

Susan Kilne,

As a group of retired ladies we stayed for the weekend 27 - 30 April.
What a lovely homely property, sadly the weather didn't enable us to sit outside and enjoy the view but we did manage to walk a little way around the village. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a short or long stay.

Rachel,

Our second time at The Old Chapel and it didn't disappoint. The house is exemplary modern, clean, well equipped and very tastefully decorated, there is everything you could possible need. Fantastic walks directly from the house the scenery is truly breathtaking.

My brother, sister and I brought our parents, both 85, to the Old Chapel as their Christmas present. We spent a lot of time in the beautiful kitchen cooking and playing games at the huge table. They loved it, the walk up to the The Chapel did pose a few challenges, they certainly left fitter than when they arrived.

Would love to visit during the summer months to take advantage of the garden and everything it has to offer. Couldn't recommend this highly enough. Will be returning in the future.

Debra Saund,

We stayed in the Old Chapel over the New Year. As a group of friends from various places around England and other parts of Europe, it was the perfect place for us to catch up, spend time together and walk around the Cotswolds. The Chapel was beautiful and had everything we needed – even some Champagne for the New Year! We would love to come back sometime.

Steph,

October - December
Monday - Friday
Have spent seven glorious weeks at The Old Chapel - we arrived in the full beauty of autumn and leave amidst snow. We loved the space (in & out), the views and stunning walks. Thoroughly recommend the devilled kidneys at The Woolpack and the cakes at the garden cafe in Miserden!
Thank you for the loan of your fabulous house Paddy & Jude and huge thanks to Debra for ensuring our stay was completely hassle free.

Helen and Alec Davies,

Our week at The Old Chapel was no less than magical. The house was cosy and welcoming, from the excellent art works on the walls to the wonderful kitchen - a cook's delight.
We were a family of 10 - three generations on a family vacation. and the embracing ambience made our togetherness as best as could be.
We already want to come back!
Dalia and family from Tel-Aviv, Israel

Dalia Magnat,

We chose The Old Chapel in Slad for my Dad's 65th birthday weekend, and didn't anticipate what an unforgettable stay it would be.

The building and interior are simply stunning. Full of incredible artwork, interesting pieces and beautiful decor, we spent the first half an hour wandering round trying to take it all in! The overall feel the owners have created is absolutely perfect- cosy and comfortable while still being super-modern.

A gorgeous location too- the views over the valley are really something and there are some great walks on the doorstep. The Woolpack pub is 300m away and serve a brilliant Sunday roast (make sure you book!)

Debra who manages the property couldn't have been more helpful and the instructions when we arrived were very easy to follow. Special thanks for letting us arrive two hours early and leave two hours late- with a baby in the party this was a massive help! It really was an absolutely fantastic weekend and The Old Chapel blew us away. We want to come back!

Hayley,

We used the Old Chapel over the weekend of my wedding which took place at Slad Holy Tribkty Church. The Chapel was the perfect base for my family and we used the main room for all of us to get ready and have our hair and make up done. This was lovely as we were surrounded by fabulous views looking out the window. The children's room kept the little ones entertained and the spacious kitchen was fantastic for having breakfast for a large number of people. It was lovely to find somewhere so perfect for my family to stay and I hope we have a reason to book in as a family again. Debra has been extremely helpful over phone and email and confirmed it was only a couple of minutes walk from the church and Woolpack pub.

Kate Mears,

Thank you for the thoughtful arrangement. The picturesque village and unique Chapel is a truly eye-opener for those who stay in the city like us. Although the temperatures soars to 34 degrees celsius during our stay, it didn't dampen our mood. Once again, thank you Debra.

Eng Min,

We throughly enjoyed our stay in this extraordinary chapel - we enjoyed discovering all the artwork, the beautiful views, the fire outside as well as the huge trampoline. We will take away fond memories of the Old Chapel. Thank you!

Helen and family,

Eight of us stayed at the old cottage for a pre Christmas celebration we had an amazing week at The Old Chapel could not have been better, The Old Chapel had everything we needed no complaints at all. Loved all the festive decorations, the house was so welcoming. Lots of infomation on walks and local attrations. Fabulous countryside did some exceptional walks. It's certainly the best rental accommodation we have ever stayed in.

The booking agent, Debbie was very helpful and extremely efficient. Hope to return the The Old Chapel next year.

Debra Saund,

Absolutely love this place, we have returned 3 years in a row.
The house is well furnished and has an excellent kitchen with all amenities.
It's extremely comfortable, warm and inviting and feels like a real home from home.
Some excellent walks, footpaths and nature trails locally, and the village pub is a very short walk away.
A perfect retreat in an idyllic setting.

P. I. ,

We stayed for a week in The Old Chapel in May and really enjoyed the space, the unique property and the care & attention that is taken to keep it in such tip top condition.

The booking and info about getting there & about the property were all extremely comprehensive and really helpful.

The kitchen is vast and all the appliances are top of the range and all fully working and well cared for.

The downstairs area is huge and very comfortable and all the bedrooms and bathrooms fabulous with hand soap and shower gel provided and initial supply of things like toilet roll which is all very handy.

We also enjoyed the art work dotted around - real talking points and very interesting!!!

And I must say the bed in the master bedroom is massive and so comfortable - didn't want to get up but had to to go and enjoy the lovely outdoor area and the fabulous walks and pub, The Woolpack just a few minutes walk away.

The Woolpack is a lovely pub with fabulous food and a lovely atmosphere.

The Old Chapel is a fabulous place for many walks around that beautiful part of the Cotswolds and we thoroughly enjoyed it with our dog. It is a location we will never forget :)

A.H,

We had the most special week ever. Our daughter got married from The Old Chapel at Slad and we wanted to be somewhere memorable. The Old Chapel is just amazing not just for the memories it left us with but amazing for its location and stylish furnishings and decor. It was a real privilege to stay here and breathtaking inside and out. The Old Chapel is a large architecturally stunning home with a location to match. Wonderful!

Jean Fremlin,

What a fabulous jewel in the middle of the small hamlet of Slad. Perfect for all our party with an age range of 8 months to 80 years!
Brilliantly equipped with everything we needed for our long weekend. Comfortable seating areas, spacious bedrooms and a gorgeous kitchen! We particularly loved the wood burner which made our winter stay extra cosy. We all appreciated the art work all over the place which caused much conversation over the weekend.
The local pub was spot on. Service and food being impeccable. Good info re local walks was helpful too. Hoping to return for the next large family celebration.

Jacqui S, Kennilworth,

Beautiful house in gorgeous surroundings. Love everything about it. Enjoyed a great long weekend. Our second visit - will definitely return.

Sarah Pugh,

We've been to quite a few holiday rentals in the UK over the past 10 or so years and The Old Chapel in Slad simply is the best. Not just in this price-range, but in any. The location is wonderful in the very lovely south part of the Cotswolds. Bristol and Bath are nearby. Rollings hills, bucolic villages like Painswick are reachable on foot.

The house is simply amazing. Roomy, clean, very comfortable, modern where needed, very charming and it has all the amenities you could wish for. The bedrooms are roomy and cosy en the bedding is great. Everything is provided for, extra towels etc. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The interior is lovingly designed and furnished. Like living in a magazine home.

Cell phone reception may be a bit of a problem though. The wifi is perfect.

We've been here three times and we will surely be back.

Itzard,

A wonderful time was had by all in 'our' beautiful chapel. It is perfect for our rowdy family of four and visiting relatives. Going to bed, waking up, hanging out, and cooking and eating (in the fabulous kitchen) is all an absolute pleasure. Can't wait to return.

Catherine Ecclestone,

Thank you for an amazing week. The Chapel is in a gorgeous location and had everything we could possibly need. Very well laid out and brilliant artwork! Very special place to celebrate turning 40!!

Kat,

Two families for a suprise 40th. Magicial and enchanting place. Perfectly equipt! We had a perfect time - Thank you so much!
Lots of lovely views and walks with the dog.
Loved it, cheers xx

Bates,

The Old Chapel was ideal for our needs and we had a brilliant few days exploring the Slad Valley by foot and the rest of the Cotswolds by car. We had some wonderfully memorable moments stuck in mud and enjoyed several festive drinks in the delightful Woolpack. Thank you and Merry Christmas

Napier families,

Wonderful house for our annual get-to-gether. Amazing walks and even good weather! Everything we needed was thought of, even a Christmas tree. A really memorable weekend, the property manager Debra organised so much for us, thank you.

Joan and family,

We have been here for the 2nd time. It has been wonderful all week! The house is a great place to stay with really beautiful surroundings.

Sandra,

A very enjoyable week - we loved the Woolpack, Stroud farmer's market and exploring Laurie Lee country. Many thanks for sharing your lovely house.

Emma,

From dawn to dusk.
We had a wonderful few days in beautiful surroundings from dawn to dusk! Coming back to the chapel after long days in the car was a real treat. Thank you

Phil and family,

What a great place to stay! This house has everything you could wish for and such a relaxing enviroment. Wonderful, well equipped kitchen made meal times a treat. Would definately look at staying here again!

Australian guests,

What an exquiste place!
We have truly enjoyed our stay: from exploring all of the beautiful villages, to sampling a variety of different pubs, (love the Woolpack!) to appreciating happy hour on the hill....we can't get enough, we will be back!

Nicole,

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful house, it was a great week. We love it! We visited Bibury, Oxford, Burton-on-the-water, Hidcote......many thanks.

7 freinds from Belgium,

The perfect setting for a family celebration!"

The Old Chapel was the perfect place for our two families to spend the week celebrating our mothers 80th birthday. There was ample room for all eight of us (nine with the dog!) and the lovely family kitchen with a huge dining table was great to gather round in the evening. The Chapel was absolutely stunning- inside and out and we were blessed with the weather all week so it gave us an ideal base to tour and explore this beautiful part of the country. We would definitely love to go back one day!

Ian,

"Divine"

The Old Chapel in Slad is one of the calmest and most relaxing places I have stayed, even in Gold Cup week. Look over old gravestones to the changing light of the valley, sample the cidery delights of The Woolpack a few hundred metres down the road, sit outside with a glass early evening..
The house is stylish, spacious, light and superbly managed by Debra who lives nearby and is always keen to help.
Heaven in Glos

Stuart,

"Beautiful accommodation in beautiful location."

Cosy and stylish all rolled into one. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the log fire was the perfect touch for the frosty evenings. We were catering for 8 and the kitchen was full of everything we could have needed and more.

Andy,

A wonderful property set in a wonderful location, perfect for my partners 40th birthday weekend with the family. The kids loved the den and ample space to run around and the trampoline in garden, the adults loved cooking in the kitchen, ample space, nice features, great views and not to mention brilliant pub down the road.

Charlotte,

Five of us stayed at the Chapel in August 2013, and I am late with my review but we all enjoyed our stay so much I wanted to ensure I circled back to it. There were two kids (7 and 5) and two 70+ people in our party, and the house was perfect for all of us. The kids enjoyed the trampoline and running in the upper yard. The rest of us enjoyed the gorgeous artwork, the stylish (but kid friendly) furniture and the well done, spacious kitchen (with a fantastic wood table large enough for far more than the 5 of us). We really enjoyed the Slad setting. Walking to the Woolpack and on some of the local, side streets was quite nice. This was our first visit to the Cotswolds, so we drove to Moreton on Marsh and the other villages that more often make our US guidebooks, but it was nice to return each day to a spot where you will not see any sort of tour bus. It was also a good jumping off spot for a day trip to Wales (Caerphilly Castle specifically for us, although Cardiff would also be manageable). We can't say enough about the chapel, and Debra the manager is also very available and helpful. We hope to stay again in the future.

“Brilliant”
5 of 5 starsReviewed December 30, 2013 NEW
Got there in the dark, but it was easy to find as it’s on the road through Slad and 300 yards past the Woolpack Pub as the information pack indicated. It was hard work walking the luggage up both the steep drive and steps but when we woke up in the morning to the views it was worth it.

We stayed over Christmas week, taking some of our own Christmas decorations but be needn’t have bothered as we were welcomed to see a lovely decorated real large Christmas tree in the hallway and another one in the playroom along with other decorations around the house.

Everything was there that we needed including a well equipped kitchen. Also you don’t need to bring any towels as these are provided plus there is a good washing machine and dryer there.

Overall we had a brilliant Christmas there with many local walks and pubs around to explore and try. We hope to go back there in the summer and would recommend it if you get the opportunity.

The only downside was the slow wifi. Being use to a faster town connection the slow wifi was an issue when I had to work on one of the days whilst there, although it was adequate enough to post photos of the Old Chapel and the surrounding pictures views on facebook to the envy of our friends

Mark,

Such a beautiful and comfortable house. All of the rooms are well proportioned and nicely decorated. The kids loved the outside space and the trampoline. It truly felt like home. We will definitely be staying here again.

We booked The Old Chapel for the Mother in Laws 60th Birthday and we really enjoyed our stay.

The property easily fit 7 adults and 2 children without us being on each others toes.

Beautifully laid out and the Kitchen is one I would dream of having if my own home was big enough. Although induction hobs take some getting used to.

The artwork on the walls looks like a famous artists work, ( I won't spoil who) and this compliments the property really well.

The Woolpack is just down the road (approx 2 minute walk) and is untouched by time, and they serve a wonderful pint of "Old Rosie".

If you are in the area over a weekend, then a trip to the farmers market in Stroud on Saturday is highly recommended.

All in all a wonderful stay, and we would go back.

Tarran,

OMG. What a gorgeous place to stay.... and it didn't even rain once!!! We had an amazing weekend in an amazing place.

Manning,

I write for all of us, what a fantastic building and interior design (it was home from home). As we arrived there was an April hailstorm, which was a bit unexpected, but we are 'British' and can cope with that sort of thing! It's been a great family bonding in a delightful surroundings. Loved the locals in the woolpack - very friendly. Many thanks for the 'loan of your lovely home'.....

Hugh,

The best birthday(21st) bash a young girl could wish for. Thank you.

kate,

In a bitter windswept March weekend we converged from all directions to this most gorgeous and stylish of safe havens. Like the Chapel, we are converted. We'll be back. Thanks so much.

Paulo,

Had a wonderful weekend with all the family to celebrate father's 70th Birthday. We didn't want to leave. Chapel equipt with everything we needed.

Nicola,

Amazing place to stay. Enjoyed it so much with my husband and our 2 dogs. Will 'defo' come again.

Dixon's,

WOW! A place that caters for every person! What a beautiful chapel and not at all eerie. This has been by far the best place in terms of space and accommodating the maximum participants that have stayed. Would definitely book again!

Owen,

Quite simply the best Christmas we've ever had. The Old Chapel is charming, beautifully appointed and fantastically well located for beautiful views, great walks, good beers and as a starting point to explore the local area further.
Couple of recommendations: Bourton on the Water (I'd spend a day here mooching in the shops and sampling local pub grub/beer), Painswick (Olivas coffee shop), Farmers Market in Stroud.
We had lunch in Cirencester at The Fleece Hotel - very good food and excellent, young but well informed staff.

All in all, difficult to fault it in any way. Just be careful with young kids, walks are very hilly and tiring.

Would DEFINITELY stay here again.

David Towse,

What a perfect weekend we had in The Old Chapel! A perfect place to stay, even perfect weather!!! We had a great relaxing time with all the family celebrating the 60th birthday! We all fell in love with the fridge of all things !!! I'm missing filtered water on tap already!! We enjoyed a fire in the evenings, sat outside most of the days, and had great family meals around the super kitchen table. The whole place was full of thoughtful homely touches and we didnt want for anything! Thank you!

E Collins and family,

We stayed in The Old Chapel for a week earlier this summer and we all really enjoyed it! The house is very spacious and there was plenty of space for us all (six adults and four boys aged 4-10). It didn’t just live up to our expectations, which were really high. The Old Chapel easily exceeded them! The house was warm and welcoming.

We really appreciated the information folder - it was full with all the necessary information about the house as well as many tips about excursions and trips in the surrounding area. The kitchen was very well equipped and we loved cooking and dining in it. Being set in a fantastic landscape and close to many interesting places the Old Chapel was a fantastic “headquarter” for our daily adventures. During the week we easily travelled to Birmingham in the north, Bristol in the south and Oxford to the west, as well as many other places closer to the Old Chapel. Stroud is a very nice little town and being only a ten minute car ride away it catered for our daily needs.

Sara Almlof,

Had a very enjoyable week at the Old Chapel in February. The Chapel is extremely well equipped and we all felt at home very quickly. The kitchen was wonderful and we had 11 people for dinner at the weekend and there was plenty of space. The area is absolutely beautiful - great place to go to.

Kate L and family,

We had a absolutely fantastic weekend and couldn't have picked a better property to stay in.

My Father had a great 60th birthday and as a little extra surprise for my family I got down on one knee under the Old Chapel's porch and proposed to my partner Vikki.

I'd been planning the trip and proposal for a couple of months and it really couldn't have been more perfect.

Everything was spookily to our taste and we all commented on how it was probably our dream property.
The sun was shining (for the most part) and we spent the majority of the weekend eating, drinking and celebrating at the Old Chapel.

We will all always hold very happy memories of our time spent there and look forwarded to returning very soon.

Many thanks.

PS Vikki said yes!

E Pinkerton, Herts,

We have just returned from our surprise Birthday Weekend at the Old Chapel.

Everything worked out brilliantly. The venue was perfect for the event, and all our guests were bowled over by the accommodation, the location and the stylish decor (and the art works!)

Our two grandchildren loved the Play Room and the Bunk beds. The only argument they had was over whose turn it was to have the top bunk! (they now want bunk beds at home!)

The weather was amazingly warm and sunny yesterday, and the “Woolpack” did a great job with Sunday Lunch for 12 adults and 4 children!

So, many thanks for giving us the chance to experience such a unique property.

P & A Hornsby, Hampshire,

We just wanted to say thank you for letting us stay at the beautiful chapel. We had such a fantastic weekend, the weather was fabulous and the village and pub had a great atmosphere.

The chapel is absolutely beautiful we were really blown away. Everything was to such a high standard and was so so clean. Better than staying in any hotel any of us have ever been to and we have been to a few! The art and décor was unbelievable!

I think we will all be booking again in the future if you are still renting it out. I think you have definitely secured a booking from all of us for years to come.

What a wonderful place. Thanks again.

SH, Leicestershire,

Wow!! I can't praise The Old Chapel enough. It was certainly home from home & equipped with everything that one could possibly want. I brought various kitchen items with me but needed none. Paddy & Jude certainly cater for your every requirement. Happiest time of my life as our youngest son got married in Holy Trinity Church, which is just a short walking distance away opposite the Woolpack Inn. 10/10.

Barbara Bruyn,

We have had a wonderful week in a wonderful place. the Old Chapel has been perfect with everything we could hope for from a holiday home. It has been particularly lovely to be able to entertain family and friends in such style. We look forward very much to coming again. Many thanks.

J Watson and family, London,

We had a 40th birthday celebration/family reunion at the Old Chapel - what an amazing place! Everyone was blown away on arrival - definitely lived up to expectations. Gorgeous countryside - we did lots of walking, visited the pub twice and enjoyed scenery from every window. Recommend the lido at Cheltenham on a hot day - great for kids and the Prinknash bird/deer park and Painswick for an amble. Thank you for a very comfortable and well-appointed place with a quirky twist of style and art.

Shelagh and family,

Away, hiding from the rain in our home country, Holland, we arrived at this wonderful place. Within a few hours it felt as if it was home. Every day we wok up with lots of sunshine - not a drop of rain all week! We love this house, all the lovely details. We hope to come back again soon. Thank you.

Itzard and Marissa, Netherlands,

Thanks, we enjoyed our holidays at The Old Chapel very much. You have got an amazing place there. That was by far the greatest holiday home we have ever stayed at.

Alex, Steph and family, Germany,

Many thanks for sharing the Old Chapel with us. We had a fantastic week of walking in the hills around Slad, visiting the Woolpack and cooking in the fabulous kitchen. The kids loved the bunkbeds, trampoline and the Playstation. The adults loved the comfy beds, the stylish interior and fantastic views. Stroud's farmers market was well worth visiting and Cirencester's Corinium Museum was excellent. Lunch on the terrace over a bottle of wine made us appreciate how beautiful England can be. What a great property in a great setting. Thanks again. We'll be back!

Kate G and family, London,

I stayed with a group of friends at Slad's fabulous Old Chapel in order to celebrate a landmark birthday in 'style' and The Old Chapel certainly fitted the bill.

Outside you are in the 19th century; calm and atmospheric, once inside though it's all cool contemporary 21st century comfort with intriguing, era defining art work everywhere. A golden skull was a particular favourite, a homage perhaps, to those resting in the graveyard garden!

I loved the windows of every shape and the views across the valley really are stunning, I wish I could see them in every season. The weekend flew by in a rush of visits to the Woolpack for dinner and drinks, walks around the valley and into Painswick and meals and laughter at the huge dining table.

The property is spacious and extremely comfortable, eight adults when not gathered around the wood burning stove or sat chatting were all able to find our own space to think, read or just be - The Old Chapel is truly unique accommodation recommended to all.

Alison B - London,

We booked The Old Chapel for 4 couples joining us for a family celebration. Living in the village and watching the transformation of this building it was very pleasing to see that inside it lived up to one's expectations. It was clean, well kept and very nicely done up. Our friends were most impressed. It provides the only, much needed accommodation in the village and Paddy and Jude have done a very good job.

J Moore,

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the old chapel. What a lovely place. Glorious views and a fantastic house with everything you could possibly need. Paddy and Jude were really helpful. We managed to venture out in the sub-zero temperatures and enjoyed stroud's farmers Market, Sunday lunch at the Woolpack and lovely walks and above all a roaring fire. Great place to have a family get together. Can't recommend the chapel highly enough.

Hepworth family,

We stayed at the old chapel to celebrate my 40th birthday. The chapel looked stunning as we pulled up into the driveway, and got even better inside. Large open plan spaces , great feature bedrooms, very stylish and contemporary in design throughout. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The local pub serves great food and we walked off our lunch with a walk in the amazing Cotswold countryside. In all a great place, great facilities and the owners Paddy and Jude could not have been more helpful throughout.

Peter & Family,

We have just got back from our Honeymoon at the Old Chapel, it really is a special place in a beautiful setting. It is the perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds, however the house and the Valley are so wonderful we didn't really want to go anywhere!! Also Paddy and Jude could not have been more kind or helpful. We cannot recommend the Old Chapel highly enough and are hoping to return one day maybe to celebrate our Anniversary.

Meriel and Brad,

Thank you for an amazing and very relaxing weekend at The Old Chapel. We had everything we could have wished for and more. The decor was perfect and the location was unbeatable. We loved the Farmer's market in Stroud and enjoyed a great meal at The Woolpack. We had a fabulous Sunday Roast around the massive family table and spent the rest of the day chilling in this little gem of a house with a fire to complete the perfect weekend escape.

J & the girls, Surrey,

July 2010. Having moved away from the Cotswolds we were looking for an ideal base to rediscover our roots - and we found it! Beautiful place, hidden away in a stunning valley with heaps of history and a wonderful central position for us to touch base with our old haunts.

S & M Clayden, New Zealand,

Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing house. It is my favourite holiday let to date - and we've stayed in a few! The attention to detail is what makes it so special. Funky, understated decor, interesting artwork and yet still homely and child-friendly. Local brew - Uley Beer - and great food in the Woolpack - lifted our spirits in a howling gale (typical English summer - rain with bursts of sunshine to torment us). The walk back to the Old Chapel was a cinch, knowing that a warm welcome awaited us in this uber cool home. We loved Cirencester and Miserden Gardens (English gardens at their best). It's been a blast. Thanks.

Helen and co, Singapore,

My family and I are just back from a wonderful week here. The Chapel itself is stunning - both inside and out and we all really liked the mixture of old and modern furniture/artwork within the house. There is plenty to do at the house - games, reading materials, firepit, baking equipment etc so there was always something to do! The Chapel is ideally positioned for exploring the Cotswolds but it also feels quite removed from everything which was just what we were after. We had a lovely trip into Painswick and went to the Farmers Market in Stroud - both to be recommended. Thanks to Paddy for making the booking so easy and we can't wait to return to the Chapel...

A Woodward,

A huge thank you for providing such a perfect setting for our family reunion. The Old Chapel could not have been better - the views are wonderful and we had some lovely meals out on the terrace. The imaginative way you have restored and furnished the chapel was appreciated by all - we would love a kitchen like that at home! We had some lovely walks locally, with several visits to the Woolpack, we visited Miserden, Painswick and the wonderful farmers' market in Stroud. And the children spent hours on the trampoline while we relaxed in the sunshine. Bliss! We'll be back next year.

Anderson Family,

I just got back this morning from our weekend at the Old Chapel and I wanted to say thank you for an absolutely wonderful weekend. I am sure you must hear this all the time but the Chapel could not have been more perfect. We all fell in love with it completely and the setting was stunning.

We had a great weekend. It rained on Saturday but we drove to Painswick and had tea and cakes and wandered round the most amazing second hand/antique book shop (we all work in publishing so it was fitting!), then a fantastic dinner at the Woolpack Saturday evening. Then a long walk on Sunday – just the perfect weekend. I will stop waffling on now but really felt I had to say how great it was. Hopefully we will get to repeat the experience sometime soon! Thanks again.

D Mortimer,

What an amazing place!! I felt this was going to be a wonderful experience and everything went swimmingly to plan. Fantastic to have Mum's birthday with all her family together under one glorious chapel roof. Stunning, truly stunning. Paddy and Jude, thanks for the memories. Emma, Christophe and the whole clan.

Emma W,

Thank you so much for the privilege of staying in such a beautifully finished chapel conversion. We all had an amazing weekend, and actually managed a walk over to Painswick on the Saturday as it was cold and crisp (lovely craft shops and more Christmas shopping completed!) and a fabulous meal in the Woolpack on the Saturday night.

Other than that it was perfect to gather round the fire and catch up with old friends. Thanks again.

Deborah Hutton,

We're a group of good friends looking for a weekend cottage getaway! We were immediately excited by The Old Chapel when we 'discovered' it online and I'm happy to say the reality didn't let us down. Fantastic accommodation in an idyllic setting!

The weather let us down a little - but what better excuse to stay indoors! From the fully equipped kitchen where we created our own banquets, sitting by the fire with a nice wine, piecing together jigsaw puzzles, reading, writing, Playstation and a bit of TV for balance.

A lovely weekend away! It was over all too soon! I've already passed the details to my friends and we hope to return one day soon.
Thanks!

Shannon, Rich, Jon, Gemma & Kate,

We spent 4 nights at The Old Chapel at the beginning of September and had a lovely time. The property is truly great and had everything we could have wanted including a gorgeous state of the art kitchen and HUGE master bedroom with lovely artwork and decor. Our friend's 10 month old had everything she needed in the family room and toys and cot were much appreciated. The games room was also great with DVDs, PS2 and SingStar although luckily for the rest of the party, the karaoke disc didn't make it out its box!
We had dinner in the famous Woolpack pub just a short walk down the road and enjoyed excellent food and wine. The farmers market in Stroud on Saturday mornings is filled with so many stalls of fresh fruit, veg, cheese, meat and pastries that you needn't go anywhere else.
A great stay and I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Hollamby family,

Fantastic!
Thank you so much for a wonderful few days in your amazing house - we didn't want to leave. Already living in the area, we were looking for a holiday home to cater for our big family who were coming to stay for a few days. The house was absolutely wonderful and catered for our every need from comfort through to entertainment. The views are magnificent as is the house and grounds - completely faultess and full of fun, it was a great base for all our exploring and a pleasure to return to - We would love to come again and highly recommend it.

Jackie & Mark,

The Old Chapel is quite simply a gem in the Cotswolds. We had a family weekend there to celebrate 2 ruby weddings and we couldn't have wished for a more perfect place. The building has been beautifully and authentically renovated and is really well-equipped. But it also has a gloriously quirky, unique edge. It has a kitchen, which I covet - I dream of having one like it and it was the focus of a very fun family meal on Friday night. The artwork is something else and it intrigued us all. We had the most wonderful time and can't recommend the place highly enough. Paddy, the owner, was a dream to deal with, uber efficient and friendly. We will always remember the place with fond, smiley memories. What a find.

Sally Biddulph,

We just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous weekend at the Old Chapel in April. It is a lovely property which has been renovated to an extremely high standard and which has the feel of a family home. The Master bedroom and kitchen in particular were fabulous.
To further add to our pleasure of the aesthetics at the Old Chapel was the artwork.
We would very much like to return in due course .... the area is beautiful with fabulous views and we became quite partial to the Woolpack!
Many thanks

David Bassett,

The Old Chapel is perfect for large families or groups of friends (in our case) to go for an idyllic weekend. We spent hours out pounding the footpaths between Slad and Painswick, Bisley, The Camp, and the countryside in every direction is just wonderful. Peaceful, rolling hills, you'll hardly meet anyone else along the way. And to be able to come home to a roaring fire or a meal in the wonderful kitchen makes for a very relaxing time. We're all certain that we'll come back, possibly even later this year. Highly recommended by all nine of us.

Dr James R Stevenson, Oxfordshire,

I just wanted to let you know that the 10 of us had a fantastic time at the Old Chapel.  What an amazing place you have there.  The weather was fantastic which was a real bonus.  We will certainly be visiting the Old Chapel again in the future.  I think it would be very difficult to find accommodation as good anywhere else.  The place had everything we needed and more.

Steve Jones,

We just wanted to let you know what a lovely weekend we enjoyed at The Old Chapel. The weather was better than forecast so we woke (not too early) on Saturday and Sunday to sunshine and beautiful views from the windows. We enjoyed a couple of really good walks and an excellent Sunday lunch at The Woolpack. The facilities at the chapel are superb and were perfect for us. Thanks to you for sharing your lovely home with us. We hope that we might return sometime if you will have us.

William and Lynda,

We had a great stay. Most times when you arrive at a cottage, there is a little bit disappointment because it looks never the same as on the internet. But the chapel is the opposite. It is more beautiful! The furnishing is stylish and the art suits very nicely in the chapel.

The weather was nice, we visit a friend in Gloucester en made some short trips in the area.

I hope we manage to return to this place another time.

RJ, Netherlands,

Of the more than dozen places we have rented for weeklong stays—in both Europe and the US, The Old Chapel at Slad wins the highest praise. My husband, college-age daughter and I stayed there the first part of September for the last week of our 3-week England holiday. Our plan was to use Old Chapel as our home base to sightsee to Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, north and south Cotswolds and Stonehenge. Happily, less was more. We roamed no further than Stroud (the not-to-be-missed Saturday Shambles Market and other grocery shopping), Painswick (its churchyard of 99 pruned yews and the fantastical Rococo Garden), Witcombe Roman Villa Ruins & Prinknash Abbey and Bird Park, Cirencester (exceptional Corinium Museum) and great walks in and around Slad Valley, right from our door.
Even with our shorter jaunts, we, like homing pigeons, just wanted to get back to the comforts of The Old Chapel and to relish the fabulous views. We had an idyllic stay. Except for an afternoon pint at the Woolpack Pub, it never occurred to us to eat out. The luxuriously equipped kitchen at The Old Chapel facilitated one of our favorite activities: cooking as a family with locally grown provisions. The Old Chapel has all the ease of home plus: including comfortable beds, flawlessly functional bathrooms and laundry facilities, wireless internet, inspiring artwork and refreshingly uncluttered décor, homey common spaces with grand dining table in the kitchen, couches in front of the fireplace and wide screen DVD viewer, and patio with picnic table. This place is a gem! I will hold dear forever seeing the full moon through the bedroom’s rosette window while hearing owls bark and hoot from the meadow. So too, our having teatime on the patio on a sunny early autumn day with butterflies fluttering about and crystalline views across the valley.

Marcia,

This is a perfect spot for walkers, foodies and lazy people alike. The chapel is renovated with love and real style so guests can happily spend hours lounging by the fire or soaking up the stunning Slad views. The contemporary furnishings are a million miles from your average country rental, so this really feels like a fabulous home from home. You can head out front and amble through the valley to a classic English pub, gifted by Central Casting. The kids loved the gravestones (not a bit spooky), nearby goats and the quirky petalled windows in the big bedrooms. If you leave the spacious house - and you really don't have to - a trip to the local farmers' market lets you put the flawless kitchen to good use. There is everything on hand for the enthusiastic cook and a huge refectory table and pew for the happy eaters. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are spotless, yet nothing about this house feels contrived or overly precious. A perfect holiday let - thanks for sharing it with us.

Lyndsay and co,
