We had a absolutely fantastic weekend and couldn't have picked a better property to stay in.

My Father had a great 60th birthday and as a little extra surprise for my family I got down on one knee under the Old Chapel's porch and proposed to my partner Vikki.

I'd been planning the trip and proposal for a couple of months and it really couldn't have been more perfect.

Everything was spookily to our taste and we all commented on how it was probably our dream property.
The sun was shining (for the most part) and we spent the majority of the weekend eating, drinking and celebrating at the Old Chapel.

We will all always hold very happy memories of our time spent there and look forwarded to returning very soon.

Many thanks.

PS Vikki said yes!

We have just returned from our surprise Birthday Weekend at the Old Chapel.

Everything worked out brilliantly. The venue was perfect for the event, and all our guests were bowled over by the accommodation, the location and the stylish decor (and the art works!)

Our two grandchildren loved the Play Room and the Bunk beds. The only argument they had was over whose turn it was to have the top bunk! (they now want bunk beds at home!)

The weather was amazingly warm and sunny yesterday, and the “Woolpack” did a great job with Sunday Lunch for 12 adults and 4 children!

So, many thanks for giving us the chance to experience such a unique property.

We just wanted to say thank you for letting us stay at the beautiful chapel. We had such a fantastic weekend, the weather was fabulous and the village and pub had a great atmosphere.

The chapel is absolutely beautiful we were really blown away. Everything was to such a high standard and was so so clean. Better than staying in any hotel any of us have ever been to and we have been to a few! The art and décor was unbelievable!

I think we will all be booking again in the future if you are still renting it out. I think you have definitely secured a booking from all of us for years to come.

What a wonderful place. Thanks again.

Wow!! I can't praise The Old Chapel enough. It was certainly home from home & equipped with everything that one could possibly want. I brought various kitchen items with me but needed none. Paddy & Jude certainly cater for your every requirement. Happiest time of my life as our youngest son got married in Holy Trinity Church, which is just a short walking distance away opposite the Woolpack Inn. 10/10. — Barbara Bruyn, 26 Sep 2011
We have had a wonderful week in a wonderful place. the Old Chapel has been perfect with everything we could hope for from a holiday home. It has been particularly lovely to be able to entertain family and friends in such style. We look forward very much to coming again. Many thanks. — J Watson and family, London, 02 Sep 2011
We had a 40th birthday celebration/family reunion at the Old Chapel - what an amazing place! Everyone was blown away on arrival - definitely lived up to expectations. Gorgeous countryside - we did lots of walking, visited the pub twice and enjoyed scenery from every window. Recommend the lido at Cheltenham on a hot day - great for kids and the Prinknash bird/deer park and Painswick for an amble. Thank you for a very comfortable and well-appointed place with a quirky twist of style and art. — Shelagh and family, 26 Aug 2011
Away, hiding from the rain in our home country, Holland, we arrived at this wonderful place. Within a few hours it felt as if it was home. Every day we wok up with lots of sunshine - not a drop of rain all week! We love this house, all the lovely details. We hope to come back again soon. Thank you. — Itzard and Marissa, Netherlands, 22 Jul 2011
Thanks, we enjoyed our holidays at The Old Chapel very much. You have got an amazing place there. That was by far the greatest holiday home we have ever stayed at. — Alex, Steph and family, Germany, 11 Jul 2011
Many thanks for sharing the Old Chapel with us. We had a fantastic week of walking in the hills around Slad, visiting the Woolpack and cooking in the fabulous kitchen. The kids loved the bunkbeds, trampoline and the Playstation. The adults loved the comfy beds, the stylish interior and fantastic views. Stroud's farmers market was well worth visiting and Cirencester's Corinium Museum was excellent. Lunch on the terrace over a bottle of wine made us appreciate how beautiful England can be. What a great property in a great setting. Thanks again. We'll be back! — Kate G and family, London, 14 Jun 2011
I stayed with a group of friends at Slad's fabulous Old Chapel in order to celebrate a landmark birthday in 'style' and The Old Chapel certainly fitted the bill.

Outside you are in the 19th century; calm and atmospheric, once inside though it's all cool contemporary 21st century comfort with intriguing, era defining art work everywhere. A golden skull was a particular favourite, a homage perhaps, to those resting in the graveyard garden!

I loved the windows of every shape and the views across the valley really are stunning, I wish I could see them in every season. The weekend flew by in a rush of visits to the Woolpack for dinner and drinks, walks around the valley and into Painswick and meals and laughter at the huge dining table.

The property is spacious and extremely comfortable, eight adults when not gathered around the wood burning stove or sat chatting were all able to find our own space to think, read or just be - The Old Chapel is truly unique accommodation recommended to all.

We booked The Old Chapel for 4 couples joining us for a family celebration. Living in the village and watching the transformation of this building it was very pleasing to see that inside it lived up to one's expectations. It was clean, well kept and very nicely done up. Our friends were most impressed. It provides the only, much needed accommodation in the village and Paddy and Jude have done a very good job. — J Moore, 28 Jan 2011
We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the old chapel. What a lovely place. Glorious views and a fantastic house with everything you could possibly need. Paddy and Jude were really helpful. We managed to venture out in the sub-zero temperatures and enjoyed stroud's farmers Market, Sunday lunch at the Woolpack and lovely walks and above all a roaring fire. Great place to have a family get together. Can't recommend the chapel highly enough. — Hepworth family, 12 Jan 2011
We stayed at the old chapel to celebrate my 40th birthday. The chapel looked stunning as we pulled up into the driveway, and got even better inside. Large open plan spaces , great feature bedrooms, very stylish and contemporary in design throughout. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The local pub serves great food and we walked off our lunch with a walk in the amazing Cotswold countryside. In all a great place, great facilities and the owners Paddy and Jude could not have been more helpful throughout. — Peter & Family, 08 Nov 2010
We have just got back from our Honeymoon at the Old Chapel, it really is a special place in a beautiful setting. It is the perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds, however the house and the Valley are so wonderful we didn't really want to go anywhere!! Also Paddy and Jude could not have been more kind or helpful. We cannot recommend the Old Chapel highly enough and are hoping to return one day maybe to celebrate our Anniversary. — Meriel and Brad, 26 Oct 2010
Thank you for an amazing and very relaxing weekend at The Old Chapel. We had everything we could have wished for and more. The decor was perfect and the location was unbeatable. We loved the Farmer's market in Stroud and enjoyed a great meal at The Woolpack. We had a fabulous Sunday Roast around the massive family table and spent the rest of the day chilling in this little gem of a house with a fire to complete the perfect weekend escape. — J & the girls, Surrey, 29 Sep 2010
July 2010. Having moved away from the Cotswolds we were looking for an ideal base to rediscover our roots - and we found it! Beautiful place, hidden away in a stunning valley with heaps of history and a wonderful central position for us to touch base with our old haunts. — S & M Clayden, New Zealand, 10 Aug 2010
Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing house. It is my favourite holiday let to date - and we've stayed in a few! The attention to detail is what makes it so special. Funky, understated decor, interesting artwork and yet still homely and child-friendly. Local brew - Uley Beer - and great food in the Woolpack - lifted our spirits in a howling gale (typical English summer - rain with bursts of sunshine to torment us). The walk back to the Old Chapel was a cinch, knowing that a warm welcome awaited us in this uber cool home. We loved Cirencester and Miserden Gardens (English gardens at their best). It's been a blast. Thanks. — Helen and co, Singapore, 01 Aug 2010
My family and I are just back from a wonderful week here. The Chapel itself is stunning - both inside and out and we all really liked the mixture of old and modern furniture/artwork within the house. There is plenty to do at the house - games, reading materials, firepit, baking equipment etc so there was always something to do! The Chapel is ideally positioned for exploring the Cotswolds but it also feels quite removed from everything which was just what we were after. We had a lovely trip into Painswick and went to the Farmers Market in Stroud - both to be recommended. Thanks to Paddy for making the booking so easy and we can't wait to return to the Chapel... — A Woodward, 27 Jun 2010
A huge thank you for providing such a perfect setting for our family reunion. The Old Chapel could not have been better - the views are wonderful and we had some lovely meals out on the terrace. The imaginative way you have restored and furnished the chapel was appreciated by all - we would love a kitchen like that at home! We had some lovely walks locally, with several visits to the Woolpack, we visited Miserden, Painswick and the wonderful farmers' market in Stroud. And the children spent hours on the trampoline while we relaxed in the sunshine. Bliss! We'll be back next year. — Anderson Family, 07 Jun 2010
I just got back this morning from our weekend at the Old Chapel and I wanted to say thank you for an absolutely wonderful weekend. I am sure you must hear this all the time but the Chapel could not have been more perfect. We all fell in love with it completely and the setting was stunning.

We had a great weekend. It rained on Saturday but we drove to Painswick and had tea and cakes and wandered round the most amazing second hand/antique book shop (we all work in publishing so it was fitting!), then a fantastic dinner at the Woolpack Saturday evening. Then a long walk on Sunday – just the perfect weekend. I will stop waffling on now but really felt I had to say how great it was. Hopefully we will get to repeat the experience sometime soon! Thanks again.
— D Mortimer, 22 Mar 2010
What an amazing place!! I felt this was going to be a wonderful experience and everything went swimmingly to plan. Fantastic to have Mum's birthday with all her family together under one glorious chapel roof. Stunning, truly stunning. Paddy and Jude, thanks for the memories. Emma, Christophe and the whole clan. — Emma W, 27 Feb 2010
Thank you so much for the privilege of staying in such a beautifully finished chapel conversion. We all had an amazing weekend, and actually managed a walk over to Painswick on the Saturday as it was cold and crisp (lovely craft shops and more Christmas shopping completed!) and a fabulous meal in the Woolpack on the Saturday night.

Other than that it was perfect to gather round the fire and catch up with old friends. Thanks again.

We're a group of good friends looking for a weekend cottage getaway! We were immediately excited by The Old Chapel when we 'discovered' it online and I'm happy to say the reality didn't let us down. Fantastic accommodation in an idyllic setting!

The weather let us down a little - but what better excuse to stay indoors! From the fully equipped kitchen where we created our own banquets, sitting by the fire with a nice wine, piecing together jigsaw puzzles, reading, writing, Playstation and a bit of TV for balance.

A lovely weekend away! It was over all too soon! I've already passed the details to my friends and we hope to return one day soon.
Thanks!

We spent 4 nights at The Old Chapel at the beginning of September and had a lovely time. The property is truly great and had everything we could have wanted including a gorgeous state of the art kitchen and HUGE master bedroom with lovely artwork and decor. Our friend's 10 month old had everything she needed in the family room and toys and cot were much appreciated. The games room was also great with DVDs, PS2 and SingStar although luckily for the rest of the party, the karaoke disc didn't make it out its box!
We had dinner in the famous Woolpack pub just a short walk down the road and enjoyed excellent food and wine. The farmers market in Stroud on Saturday mornings is filled with so many stalls of fresh fruit, veg, cheese, meat and pastries that you needn't go anywhere else.
A great stay and I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Fantastic!
Thank you so much for a wonderful few days in your amazing house - we didn't want to leave. Already living in the area, we were looking for a holiday home to cater for our big family who were coming to stay for a few days. The house was absolutely wonderful and catered for our every need from comfort through to entertainment. The views are magnificent as is the house and grounds - completely faultess and full of fun, it was a great base for all our exploring and a pleasure to return to - We would love to come again and highly recommend it.

The Old Chapel is quite simply a gem in the Cotswolds. We had a family weekend there to celebrate 2 ruby weddings and we couldn't have wished for a more perfect place. The building has been beautifully and authentically renovated and is really well-equipped. But it also has a gloriously quirky, unique edge. It has a kitchen, which I covet - I dream of having one like it and it was the focus of a very fun family meal on Friday night. The artwork is something else and it intrigued us all. We had the most wonderful time and can't recommend the place highly enough. Paddy, the owner, was a dream to deal with, uber efficient and friendly. We will always remember the place with fond, smiley memories. What a find. — Sally Biddulph, 14 Jul 2009
We just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous weekend at the Old Chapel in April. It is a lovely property which has been renovated to an extremely high standard and which has the feel of a family home. The Master bedroom and kitchen in particular were fabulous.
To further add to our pleasure of the aesthetics at the Old Chapel was the artwork.
We would very much like to return in due course .... the area is beautiful with fabulous views and we became quite partial to the Woolpack!
Many thanks

The Old Chapel is perfect for large families or groups of friends (in our case) to go for an idyllic weekend. We spent hours out pounding the footpaths between Slad and Painswick, Bisley, The Camp, and the countryside in every direction is just wonderful. Peaceful, rolling hills, you'll hardly meet anyone else along the way. And to be able to come home to a roaring fire or a meal in the wonderful kitchen makes for a very relaxing time. We're all certain that we'll come back, possibly even later this year. Highly recommended by all nine of us.

I just wanted to let you know that the 10 of us had a fantastic time at the Old Chapel.  What an amazing place you have there.  The weather was fantastic which was a real bonus.  We will certainly be visiting the Old Chapel again in the future.  I think it would be very difficult to find accommodation as good anywhere else.  The place had everything we needed and more. — Steve Jones, 23 Mar 2009
We just wanted to let you know what a lovely weekend we enjoyed at The Old Chapel. The weather was better than forecast so we woke (not too early) on Saturday and Sunday to sunshine and beautiful views from the windows. We enjoyed a couple of really good walks and an excellent Sunday lunch at The Woolpack. The facilities at the chapel are superb and were perfect for us. Thanks to you for sharing your lovely home with us. We hope that we might return sometime if you will have us. — William and Lynda, 23 Jan 2009
We had a great stay. Most times when you arrive at a cottage, there is a little bit disappointment because it looks never the same as on the internet. But the chapel is the opposite. It is more beautiful! The furnishing is stylish and the art suits very nicely in the chapel.

The weather was nice, we visit a friend in Gloucester en made some short trips in the area.

I hope we manage to return to this place another time.

Of the more than dozen places we have rented for weeklong stays—in both Europe and the US, The Old Chapel at Slad wins the highest praise. My husband, college-age daughter and I stayed there the first part of September for the last week of our 3-week England holiday. Our plan was to use Old Chapel as our home base to sightsee to Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, north and south Cotswolds and Stonehenge. Happily, less was more. We roamed no further than Stroud (the not-to-be-missed Saturday Shambles Market and other grocery shopping), Painswick (its churchyard of 99 pruned yews and the fantastical Rococo Garden), Witcombe Roman Villa Ruins & Prinknash Abbey and Bird Park, Cirencester (exceptional Corinium Museum) and great walks in and around Slad Valley, right from our door.
Even with our shorter jaunts, we, like homing pigeons, just wanted to get back to the comforts of The Old Chapel and to relish the fabulous views. We had an idyllic stay. Except for an afternoon pint at the Woolpack Pub, it never occurred to us to eat out. The luxuriously equipped kitchen at The Old Chapel facilitated one of our favorite activities: cooking as a family with locally grown provisions. The Old Chapel has all the ease of home plus: including comfortable beds, flawlessly functional bathrooms and laundry facilities, wireless internet, inspiring artwork and refreshingly uncluttered décor, homey common spaces with grand dining table in the kitchen, couches in front of the fireplace and wide screen DVD viewer, and patio with picnic table. This place is a gem! I will hold dear forever seeing the full moon through the bedroom’s rosette window while hearing owls bark and hoot from the meadow. So too, our having teatime on the patio on a sunny early autumn day with butterflies fluttering about and crystalline views across the valley.

This is a perfect spot for walkers, foodies and lazy people alike. The chapel is renovated with love and real style so guests can happily spend hours lounging by the fire or soaking up the stunning Slad views. The contemporary furnishings are a million miles from your average country rental, so this really feels like a fabulous home from home. You can head out front and amble through the valley to a classic English pub, gifted by Central Casting. The kids loved the gravestones (not a bit spooky), nearby goats and the quirky petalled windows in the big bedrooms. If you leave the spacious house - and you really don't have to - a trip to the local farmers' market lets you put the flawless kitchen to good use. There is everything on hand for the enthusiastic cook and a huge refectory table and pew for the happy eaters. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are spotless, yet nothing about this house feels contrived or overly precious. A perfect holiday let - thanks for sharing it with us. — Lyndsay and co, 18 Jun 2008
The old Chapel in Slad is a great find. We had a brilliant stay.

I think we were the first guests through the door and I know we'll go back. The chapel is really gorgeous inside and out. Absolutely no Chinz as promised just great contemporary style, modern, uncluttered and spacious and the space worked well with a couple of young children - we had bags of room. Brilliantly equipped and furnished like a family home not like a rented property at all. Like being at home.... only better. We did a couple of great walks straight from the door that were suitable for a 2 and a 4 year old who found goats, ducks and horses. the views and scenery are truly amazing. we're used to flat Suffolk so the hills are a joy ! Stroud was great for a potter and with the Saturday market definitely worth visiting if you like your produce. we found time to drink a few pints at the famous Woolpack in the village... not far to stumble home. Good food. We will definitely book again - great escape for half term. Saved us all from insanity.
