 Other Activities Sports Below are some of the many local sports options to keep the whole family busy. Golf Painswick Golf Club is the nearest 18 hole course, just 2.5 miles away, on top of the panoramic Painswick Beacon. Closed Mondays, but open The other side of Stroud is the Minchinhampton Golf Club (7 miles) in stunning surroundings and open to visitors 7 days a week. Tel: 01453 832642 Horse riding Camp Riding Centre, Camp (3 miles). Our nearest stables provide escorted rides through the Cotswold hills, family rides, group lessons or one-to-one lessons. Book a few days ahead and expect to pay around £18 for an hour's lesson. Burnt Ash Farm Stables, Minchinhampton (about 7 miles), a friendly, family run stables with all-weather school. Swimming Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud (2.5miles) is the closest public leisure complex with indoor and outdoor pools, health suite, sunbeds, tennis courts etc. If you want a little more exclusivity, the Gloucestershire Health and Rackets Club is a 10-15 minute drive, and has wonderful facilities including a giant spa pool and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Day membership includes unlimited tennis and swimming at £15 a day. You must book. Skiing Dry slope skiing in Gloucester (6 miles), 7 days a week. Skiing, snowboarding, tubing, mat rats and a Snowflex fun park with pipes and jumps. Lessons available - book ahead. There’s also a 9 hole golf course on site. Call 01452 874842. Water sports The South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre offers canoeing, sailing, snorkeling and windsurfing at the Cotswold Water Park, around 20 miles away. Check their schedule for one day and two day courses, taster sessions, and other activities.
On one of the other lakes in the Cotswold Water Park you'll also find water skiing and wake-boarding, which is a lot of fun. Lessons available with WMski. Pampering Le Spa in Cirencester has a pool withsundeck, sauna, solarium and a range of luxurious treatments. Tel: 01285 653840.
Cowley Manor (10 miles) has award-winning spa facilities, beautiful indoor and outdoor pools and wonderful grounds to wander around. 01242 870 900. Calcot Spa near Tetbury (11 miles). Seven treatment rooms built around a courtyard pool, with options for men, women and teens. There's also a creche to keep toddlers busy. 01666 891 232.
Rainy days with the kids Cinema The Apollo in Stroud is just 2 miles away, and shows the latest movie releases. You can book online or call 0871 220 6000. Parking is right next to the cinema. Bowling Also in Stroud, next to the cinema, Stroud Bowl operates a 16-lane facility with the usual bar, pool tables and so on. Book online or call 01453 76 22 00.

Events With so many cultural and sporting activities taking place throughout the year, the best thing to do is check the Cotswolds Info site for the period you plan to take your holiday. The most famous festivals take place in Cheltenham during the Spring and Summer months: Cheltenham Gold Cup 10-13 March 2009 SBC Cheltenham Jazz Festival 28th April - 4th May 2009 Cheltenham Science Festival 3-7 June 2009 Cheltenham Music Festival 3-18 July 2009 The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 9-18 October 2009. Wychwood Music Festival is a mini Glastonbury held on Cheltenham race course at the end of May. We should also mention the bizarre Cheese Rolling event that takes place on Cooper's Hill at various times in the year. You wouldn't want to miss that.
